Belthangady: Two persons have been arrested in connection to the murder of ITI lecturer which had occurred at Kotikatte Road in Mundoor in the taluk.
The police have ascertained that the victim was in an intoxicated state while he was murdered. Meanwhile, a friend of the deceased identified as Avinash has been subjected top interrogation by the police. The murder-accused were close friends of the victim Vikram Jain.
The plan
Initial investigation of the crime by the police revealed that the accused Nagesh and Deekayya had planned the murder well in advance and executed it as per plan. The duo asked Vikram to bring liquor for the trio to have it together. Accordingly, the victim bought the liquor from a bar at Santhekatte and the trio consumed it near Kotikatte. During consumption of the alcohol, the due made sure that Vikram consumed the most liquor by encouraging him to do so. The aim of the duo was to get their victim totally drunk when it would be easier for them to kill him, which otherwise would be a challenge since the victim was well built.
The murder
Once the duo made sure that their victim was drunk enough so as to not to retaliate, they stabbed him on the right side of his abdomen with a knife and hit his neck with a machete before escaping. The motives
The victim was a bachelor and was reportedly in love with the daughter of Nagesh Poojary’s paternal aunt. During interrogation, the police found that both had taken up the matter with their respective families and got their approval for his alliance. However, it is suspected that Nagesh would have harboured a grudge against Vikram in connection to this issue.
Meanwhile, the motive behind the murder could have been an issue regarding property. Vikram has 15 acres of land adjacent to land belonging to Deekayya. It is assumed that Deekayya was eying to usurp this property and likely decided to help Nagesh because of this reason.
According to locals, Vikram lived with his 70-year-old mother and was was well-behaved, had many friends and was popular in the area.
District superintendent of police Laxmi Prasad long with acting deputy superintendent of police of Bantwal Nataraj had visited the spot. The location was also visited by sniffer dogs and finger print experts.
