Public transport to office: Udupi DC, staffs lead by example

Udupi: In a sudden change from protocol,  the Deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, additional deputy commissioner K Vidya Kumari, district level officials and staff who travel in their own vehicles, arrived at the DC’s office at Rajathadri using public transport on Thursday, May 30.

Leaving behind their vehicles at their quarters and home, the DC, additional DC, officials at Ajjarkad and various department staffs boarded a public transport vehicle along with drivers and security at 9.30 am on Thursday morning.

The public transport vehicle started from the DC’s residence and proceeded via Bannanje taluk office road, City bus stand, MGM College, picking up the staff waiting to go for duty to the DC’s office and reached the DC’s office at 9.50 am.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the officials and staffs should use public transport at least once a week in order to decrease the amount of air pollution and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Hence a decision has been taken by the DC to make use of public transport once in a week on Thursday.

After the office closed at 5:30pm, the DC and the staffs returned back in public transport itself. Joint director of the department of Agriculture Kempe Gowda, District Backward Class department officer H R Lamani and others travelled using public transport.
