Citroen, the French automaker plans to enter the Indian market in 2020 with its C5 Aircross SUV. The company’s second offering for India will be a sub-4m compact SUV based on the C3 Aircross model that will be launched sometime in 2021.
The new compact SUV of Citroen will be built on a different platform which is to be developed specifically for India. Citroen sub-4m SUV will be a shortened version of the C3 and so will borrow the design and styling cues from the C3 Aircross compact SUV. Citroen’s second product in India will be its volume driver and will come with a localisation level of 90-95 percent, thus will be available at an affordable price range starting around Rs.7 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The engine options will include 1 diesel and 2 petrol units. The diesel engine will be a 1.5-litre DV5 unit that was co-developed by PSA and Ford. The two petrol versions will be a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine with 83bhp power output and a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged engine producing a maximum power of 110bhp. Transmission duties will be handled by a locally manufactured 6-speed Manual gearbox. Automatic variants will be offered later.
In terms of competition, the upcoming compact SUV of Citroen will rival the recently launched Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport and Mahindra XUV300.
