Mangaluru: The district administration’s move of dumping boulders in the sea to check erosion in Ullal region, has offered little respite to the residents who continue to live in fear of their houses getting washed away due to the rough sea conditions.
On Monday evening, the sea condtions turned rough due to the depression in the Arabian Sea and huge sea waves lashed houses at Seaground, Subhashnagara, Kaiko, Hilariyanagara, Mukkachery, Ucchila, Someshwara in Ullal region. The retaining wall of a private resort was washed away due to the rough waves at Mogaveerapattana.
Nearly 40 houses in Ullal and 10 houses in Ucchila are facing the danger of getting washed away due to sea erosion. Several families have shifted to safer ground as a precautionary measure.
Residents also feared a possibility of waves washing away roads at Peribailu and Battappady, leaving residents in Ucchila to Someshwara marooned.
