Mysuru: A owner of a home product company from Manuganahalli village of Hunsur taluk, has written to President Ramnath Kovind seeking permission for the mercy killing of himself and his family, owing to the difficulty in repayment of housing loan.
In his letter to Ramnath Kovind H Shekar informed that he owns a home product company which employed over 20 persons. He further said that he used to make a monthly profit of Rs 4 lakhs from the homemade paratha business. On 30 November 2015, he had taken a housing loan of Rs 22,89,221 and was regularly paying the EMIs. But after demonetisation, he suffered a loss of over Rs 4 Crores. Also owing to expenses of treatment of his ailing daughter, he has not been able to pay EMI from August 2017.
He further added that unable to bear pressure from the private money lenders his family attempted suicide on 10 February 2017 and again he had to lend Rs 1.5 lakh for the treatment expenses. Recently on 30 January 2019, the field officer and the manager of the bank from where he has taken housing loan, abused him verbally near his house in front of his villagers and threatened to auction his house and sell it to recover the loan amount and threatened to send him to jail.
So owing to fear of losing home and unable to bear the harassment from the officers of the bank, Shekar’s family is now seeking permission for mercy killing and also action against the bank officers, he said in his letter.
Meanwhile, Shekar has also marked the copies of the letter to Sub-inspector of Hunsur police station, Hunsur Tahsildar, SP and DC of Mysuru, Mysuru regional commissioner, MLA of Hunsur, Mysuru district minister, Chief Minister, Home Minister, assembly speaker, Governor, Chief Justice of Karnataka high court, Chairperson of State Human Rights Commission.
