Punjalakatte: In a tragic incident, a man and his daughter lost their life after accidentally coming in contact with a live wire while walking in their areca garden in Pilimogeru in Bantwal on Tuesday.
The deceased are identified as Gopalakrishna Shetty (65), a progressive farmer and his daughter Divya Shetty (29), residents of Barekkinade. Gopalakrishna is survived by his wife and two sons.
According to the police, both the deceased had gone to the garden to cut down grass at around 4 pm in the evening. However, they lost their lives after having accidentally stepped on a live wire which had snapped due to heavy rains and was lying on the ground. Both of them died on the spot. The live wire has fallen to the ground after an arecanut frond had fallen on the wire.
The locals have blamed Mesom for the mishap alleging that the company had failed to replace old wires. A case under the provision of IPC sec 304(A) has been registered against Mescom at Bantwal Rural police station for death due to negligence.
