Two die due to electrocution

Belthangady: A woman lost her life due to accidental electrocution at Panjirpu in Kaliya GP limits on Thursday. The deceased is identified as Poornima (34), wife of Mohan, a resident of Panjirpu.

It is said that the electric wire connected from the home to the water pump near the well had cut off after being struck by lightning and was fallen on the courtyard. Poornima failed to notice the wire and came in contact with the live wire losing her life on the spot. She was dead even as her family members rushed to her aid.

The autopsy was conducted at Belthangady government hospital and a case in this connection has been registered at Belthangady police station.

Poornima’s husband is employed at a laundry in Ujire. The couple has two sons of the ages 5 and two-and-a-half years of age respectively.

The mishap occurred in the evening and only the mother-in-law of the deceased was at home, while her husband was at work.

Uppunda: An elderly woman lost her life after coming in contact with a live wire which had fallen due to the heavy rain and strong winds. The deceased is identified as Chamateharlu Sharada Shetty (73), a resident of Uppunda GP. She is survived by her son.

Sharada was working in the fields and accidentally came in contact with the live wire fallen on the ground after failing to notice it. Mescom officials have visited the spot and conducted inspection.

Lady struck by lightning

Nelyadi: A lady was struck by lightning at Marlapuvi in Golitottu village on Thursday. The incident has taken a toll on her health. Also three houses were damaged.

Marlapu resident Asiyamma’s daughters, Safiya and Rahimat were seated in the veranda when the lightning struck. Rahimat (28) lost her consciousness and was taken to the hospital for treatment post which she is recuperating.
