Senior citizen kills lady, shoots self on rejection of his love

Madikeri: A senior citizen shot dead a high school teacher before turning the gun on himself at Balele village in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu district. The victim is identified as Asha Kaveramma (50) from Balele, while the shooter who committed suicide after murder is Jagadish (60).
On Friday morning, Asha was waiting for the school vehicle near the police outpost at Balele when Jagadish, a resident of Ponnampet fired five rounds at the teacher and claimed her life. Later, the accused committed suicide inside a coffee plantation by shooting himself.
Two persons including a student Dinesh and a a plantation worker Raju sustained bullet injuries on their hands when they attempted to save the teacher during the firing. Both the grievously injured have been admitted into hospital for treatment.
Sexual harassment
The police have taken up investigation of the incident. Apparently, the man who opened fire on the teacher is said to have been sexually harassing the teacher of Lions High School at Gonikoppal since long. Jagadish was obsessively in love with the teacher who was a spinster. He had often harassed the teacher sexually and both had fought two years back on this issue, it is learnt.
Rape attempt
Besides, Asha had filed complaint against Jagadish accusing him of rape attempt two years ago. The accused ended up in the jail, while the case in this connection is still being heard in the court. After securing his bail, Jagadish trailed the teacher and opened fire at her today morning and killed her and then committed suicide since the prior had rejected his love.
Ponnampet police have registered a case in this connection.
