Udupi: “Since it is the monsoon season, bike riders and four wheeler drivers should maintain caution while driving. Pedestrians should also be cautious while crossing the road,” said superintendent of police (SP) of the district, Nisha James speaking to the public during the weekly phone-in programme that was held on Friday, June 14.

Problems on NH 66

The SP spoke regarding the problems along NH 66 here and said, “We have already proposed to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to install traffic signal lights on 11 spots. Soon signal lights will be installed in Ambalpady, Santhekatte and Katapadi. Road safety survey has already been prepared. We have also identified the accident spots and remedial measures have been identified in the report. The report is submitted to NHAI and we are waiting for its approval,” she informed.

Take caution

“Citizens should take care of themselves during the rainy season. Pedestrians should be cautious while crossing the roads. The vehicle riders and drivers are requested to move slowly as most of the accidents happen due to drivers’ negligence,” said the SP urging the citizens to be cautious during the rainy season.

“Proposal has been sent to NHAI to build a foot over bridge in front of MGM College. As the foot over bridge includes huge expenditure, the NHAI will conduct feasibility study and if found necessary, will approve the proposal,” said the SP.
