Historic Devaraja Market to get new look

Mysuru: Mayor of Mysuru City Corporation Pushpalatha Jaganath on Saturday informed that the orders to demolition the historic structure, Devaraja Market has been passed by High Court of Karnataka.
Addressing presspersons with this regard she said that shop owners who were running their business in the basement of the market had moved the court with regard to restructuring the top floor of the market and had requested that the market should be built without demolishing the shops that were in the basement. But the has taken their complaint into consideration and given a verdict stating that the demolition of the structure was a must as the market had totally turned old and that it would collapse anytime.
She further added that when they had begun the renovation earlier, the other half of the old structure had already collapsed.
” The council has taken a decision to completely renovate the building amid the requests of the public to retain the structure as it was a heritage site. Following which we had submitted a memorandum to the state government for its complete renovation, ” she said.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy who has already visited the spot and assessed it. As the memorandum is now with the state government, we will go according to its orders, she informed.
