Gold smuggling attempts foiled at Kannur International Airport

Kasaragod: Three attempts to smuggle gold at Kannur international airport were foiled by the customs officials posted here in a single day on Saturday June 15.
The accused are identified as Muhamad Basheer, Mufthias and Saifuddin, all natives of Kozhikode, who had arrived through flights from Sharjah and Doha to Kannur international airport on Saturday.
The accused had concealed 600 grams of gold on an average in the form of paste in their rectum cavities. A total of 1.84 kgs of the precious metal was recovered from them.
The alert customs officials found out the mischief took the trio into custody and registered cases against them. The value of gold that was being smuggled in has been put at Rs 62 lakh.
