Uppoor highway: Tipper topples; 2 dead, one injured

Udupi: Two persons including the driver of a tipper truck lost their lives after the truck in which they were travelling jumped over the divider and overturned at K G Road on national highway 66 near Santhekatte on Friday, June 21.

The deceased have been identified as Nagaraj Ganiga and Kumar Bhatkal. Another person identified as Raghavendra, who was travelling in the truck miraculously escaped with minor injuries.

MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, who happened to pass by the spot of the accident a little after the accident immediately called the ambulance and police department. Noticing the tipper fallen across the highway and blocking movement of traffic, he made sure that it was cleared to regularize traffic movement.

He also ensured that the injured person is provided with medical help at a hospital only after which he proceeded on with his journey to participate in the Yoga Day programme.
