Bengaluru: The BBMP has directed the marriage halls in the city to ensure that they use environment-friendly utensils and avoid the use of plastic.

As per the sources, the civic body has already placed rules asking the wedding halls to avoid plastic bottles, cups and plates, yet the violation still continues. The BBMP commissioner too has met NGT chairman and chalked out plans to come up with more stringent steps to avoid the use of plastic.

Speaking on the issue, senior officer from the BBMP said that though they issued the rules to the wedding halls to use plate and steel glass banks most of the Wedding halls are violating the rules.

He further added that, in 2018, they had issued circular to all the marriage halls asking them to have sufficient plates and glass made of steel or ceramic or any other material other than plastic. But they are still finding a huge amount of plastic waste generated from these marriage halls.

” The same circular was also issued to places where mass food is served but it is in vain,” he added.
