Bengaluru: Bengaluru police dicided to have hold a meeting with civic agencies, inorder to propose the idea to put up six-foot-tall railings, barriers or fencesat at the rooftop bars and restaurants in the city.
This idea comes in the wake of two persons falling to death from a Church Street pub late Friday, June 21 night. The two were climbing down the stairs when they slipped and fell from a stairway window.
Speaking on the issue DCP (central), D Devaraj said that as most of the pubs in the city are on rooftops they need to have six-foot-tall barriers or railings to prevent accidents.
Devaraj further recalled an incident in a Church Street pub, where eight people were stuck in a lift car after it malfunctioned, triggering panic in the area.
“Various factors need to be considered while running a pub — maintenance of lift with a lift operator, emergency exits like stairs need to be clear and if there are openings near the emergency exit, they need to be covered,” he informed.
Meanwhile Police commissioner Alok Kumar said that multiple agencies are responsible for regulating pubs and they’d soon hold a meeting with various agencies to discuss measures to prevent accidents on their premises.
On June 21 two people died after they accidentally falling off from the second-floor of a pub located in city’s Church Street on Friday, June 21 night.
As per the sources, the duo, who were in an inebriated state, was walking down a flight of stairs when they lost their balance and stumbled onto the window next to the flight of stairs. The window frame, which was made out a sub-standard material, gave way and both fell out of the window.
The Cubbon Park police on Saturday, June 23 arrested the owner and manager of Bengaluru’s #BEiR on charges of negligence causing death.
