Mangaluru: Mangalore smart city limited managing director B H Narayanappa on Tuesday informed that the 44 smart city projects with the cost of Rs 958.57 had been approved by the government.

Addressing presspersons at the Zilla panchayat office, after attending the video conference regarding the smart city project he said that a smart city project of Rs 1000 crore had been planned by their committee. In the past five years, Rs 100 crore has been released by the state and the central government for the project.

Informing about the different projects initiated by government he said that land at Pumpwell had been acquired about a decade back for setting up of a well-equipped central bus stand of the city there, but now the city corporation and district administration have decided to relocate the bus stand to Padil in the city outskirts.

Currently, the complex of the district deputy commissioner’s office is being constructed at Padil. It is felt that it would be beneficial for the people if the bus stand comes up in the vicinity of this complex. Moreover, the city (junction) railway station is located nearby. As such many have been arguing that Padil will suit the bill more than Pumpwell, he informed.

Plan has been made to build a multi-level car parking area at Hampankatta. All the bridges in the city will also be repaired and rebuilt if necessary. Kadri park will also be renovated, he informed.

There are many other plans and the tender for these projects will be prepared soon, he added.
