Lack of admission closes 11 schools in twin districts

Mangaluru: Schools are getting closed in karavali due to lack of students. According to sources, over 11 schools have been asked to shut down due to lack of enrolment of students and hence, for the academic year, four schools in Dakshina Kannada and seven schools in Udupi are being closed down.
The faculties of the concerned schools have been transferred to some other location. A school at Kemanaballi village of Sullia was opened recently after it was closed down, had only one admission this year.
Reportedly, Bantwal had the highest number of schools which were closed down and the schools were functional because labourers managed to enroll their kids.
Apparently, there have been instances where the school was functional with only 6 students from 1st to 5th std. Hence the government shifted the kids and the teachers to nearby institutions and shut down the schools.
Officials are trying to find ways and means to save Shirnakal aided school in Bantwal said Y Shivaramaiah, DDPI of Dakshina Kannada and was concerned over the closing down of two government and one aided school for the present academic year.
