Kundapur court delivers judgement within a year of the murder

Kundapur: Annappa Bhandary (45), who murdered his elder sister for money has been sentenced to life and fined Rs 40,000 by the Judge Prakash Khanderi of Kundapur Additional and District Sessions court on Friday.

Last year on the night of July 22nd, Annappa assaulted his elder sister Vijaya Bhandary (50), a resident a Vaderahobli village. Vijaya suffered serious injury and was admitted to a hospital where she breathed her last on July 28th.

Annappa own a barber shop near Sangama. He had arrived drunk, had a fight with Vijaya in connection to some money and ended up stabbing her with a knife. Grievously injured Vijaya was shifted to the hospital by her relatives. Based on Vijaya’s statement, Kundapur police registered a case against the accused.

Kundapur CI Manjappa submitted the chargesheet to the court. The court investigated the case and held the accused guilty under IPC Sec 144 (forced entry into the house) and IPC 302 (Murder case.

The quantum of the sentence includes life sentence, fine of Rs 40,000 failure to pay which will attract and additional prison time of 4 months. 1 year imprisonment for illegal entry into the house.

District public prosecutor Boloor Prakashchandra Shetty argued in favour of the prosecution. It is worth nothing that the court has passed the judgement within the period of a year since the occurrence of the crime.
