Constables torture minor apprehended for theft; suspended

Puttur: Dakshina Kannada superintendent of the police B M Lakshmi Prasad initiated disciplinary action against three police personnel accused of torturing a minor girl apprehended on theft charges.

Police constables – B M Lakshmiprasad, Prashnitha and Gayatri from Puttur Rural Sampya police station have been suspended based on the victims complaint.

A person named Kowdichar N Mumtaz had lodged a complaint against the minor for stealing a gold chain whereafter police summoned the victim and her famiy members’ to the station.

The victim who is undergoing treatment at Puttur Government Hospital alleged that the police personnel assaulted her with lathi and gave electric shocks asking her to confess to the theft.
