Madikeri: Four arrested for vehicle battery theft

Madikeri: Kushalnagar police have successfully arrested a gang of thieves who target parked vehicles and stole their batteries.
The arrested are identified as M S Tausif (19) and Mohammed Basheer (19), resident of Indira layout, Sameer (19), a resident of Bapuji layout, a resident of and M Gunashekhar (51), who is a scrap dealer on the market road.
Four cases
The police have seized batteries worth Rs 60,000 from the accused which were stolen in four separate cases. According to the registered cases, on June 24th, the accused stole the battery from a lorry belonging to B S Babu, a resident of Beichanahalli in Kushalnagar and on the same day stole a battery belonging to Suresh, a resident of Kariyappa layout. Earlier on the night of June 20th, the accused made off with the battery of a tipper lorry belonging to Chethan, a resident of Beichanahalli and on the same night, stole the battery of a lorry belonging to Ganesh, a resident of Carstreet.
Creation of a separate team
With the aim to solve the repeated stealing of vehicle batteries, a separate team was created under the guidance of SP Dr Suman D Pennekar and leadership of Somwarpet DySP P K Muralidhar. Kushalnagar CI B S Dineshkumar, SI’s P Jagadeesh, M K Sadashiva (crime), staffs M Ravindra, Arun Kumar, Sudhish Kumar of the crime division and driver Praveen took part in the operation.
