Decision taken to start Super Specialty Medical courses

Mangaluru: The state government has decided to start super specialty medical course at the district government Wenlock Hospital which has been a boon for DK as well as 8 other districts. In this way, Wenlock hospital will be playing an even more important role in the provision of its services.

The state government has decided to provide super specialty (DM / Doctorate of Medicine) courses at even more government hospitals in the state under its Department of Medical Education.

Approval has been provided for this at the cabinet meeting which was held in this concern on June 29th. For now, the DM courses have been started at only 6-7 government hospitals. In the initial phase, 3 seats have been provided to Wenlock hospital. Even more seats are expected to be added during future phases.

Inspection team to arrive soon

An inspection team from the centre will be arriving soon to Wenlock hospital to verify if the hospital has the necessary facilities for providing DM courses. Soon after getting permission, the courses will be started immediately at Wenlock hospital for the 2020-21 year.

Because of this decision, not only will the number of seats for super specialist courses increase, but also there is a possibility of availing service from new doctors at Wenlock hospital.

Course in three divisions

The super specialty courses are being started as per the rules of the Diplomate of National Board. According to the available information, five super specialty courses including Urology and Pediatrics are expected be started at Wenlock hospital.

Patients from 8 districts

Wenlock hospital which has an history of 169 years, is currently visited by 3 lakh out patients and 30,000 in patients in a year. The hospital has a capacity of 1,000 beds. Patients from various locations including Shimoga, Chikkamagaluru, Davanagere, Kodagu, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Hassan and other places arrived to the hospital.
