Bengaluru: In the backdrop of resignation filed by Congress legislators Anand Singh and Ramesh Jarkiholi from the Karnataka Assembly Congress leader Siddaramaiah had called an emergency meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) at his residence on Monday.

As per the sources, Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parmeshwar, KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao and Water Resources Minister DK Shivakumar attended the meeting held at Siddaramaiah’s residence to discuss the present political situation in the state.

Siddaramaiah advised Parameshwar and Shivakumar to solve problems of the disgruntled MLAs on priority basis to protect the government.

Siddarmaiah asking Shivakumar to meet Anand Singh and convince him to withdraw his resignation said that everybody should see to it that no disgruntled MLAs join BJP fold.

Earlier that day DK Shivakumar had said, “I can’t believe this has happened. He told me that he will not quit. He might have had personal problems. He told me he had some problems. “I’m trying to reach him but I am not able to get through to him… I am shocked.”

Anand Singh and Ramesh Jarkiholi resigned from the state assembly membership. Singh said he submitted his resignation to Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar. However, Kumar said he was not aware of any such resignation, adding that no leader contacted him.

Ramesh Jarkiholi also resigned from the state assembly membership and submitted his resignation to the Speaker on Monday. However, Ramesh’s resignation comes as no surprise and ends months of speculation about his future.

Ramesh and Singh’s resignation comes at a time when cracks seem to appear in the Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress coalition in the state.
