Mangaluru: In the wake of few videos that were circulated on social media recently, superintendent of police (SP) Laxmi Prasad said that people should be educated to use social media in the right manner.

We will create awareness against misuse of social media at college-level, he added.

Divulging information about the Puttur gang-rape case, the SP said that they have confiscated all materials from the arrested accused who will soon be produced in the Mangaluru court.

“A decision on their custody will be taken after completion of seizure procedure. Circulation of such video is an offense,” he reiterated adding that few people who first started circulating the video have been detained.

Giving details about the case he said that police had registered a Suo moto case and even the victim has come forward to lodge complaint. The incident had taken place in March earlier. One of the accused had taken the victim in a car on the pretext of having a casual talk, where the other accused joined them and raped her in an unknown place, he said.
