Kuwait: A woman from Mangaluru, who was kept under house arrest by her employer in Kuwait has been rescued by Indian social workers in a swift action and handed over to Indian Embassy officials on Thursday, July 4.
About 6 months back, Mangaluru based agents Jaber and Anwar had taken Reshma Suvarna to Kuwait for employment. Once there, she was handed over to a Kuwaiti family, to work as a maid. The Kuwaiti agent, who introduced the woman to the family, was given 1000 Kuwaiti Dinars as commission.
But soon after coming under the family’s care, Reshma’s life became a nightmare. She was made to do chores from early morning up to midnight and was often denied food. On completing her work, she would be locked in a dark room. She was not allowed to go out and was also restricted from maintaining contact with her family.
In the meantime. Reshma’s family members in Mangaluru, made repeated attempts to contact her. But all her attempts were to no avail. they contacted Jaber and Anwar, they failed to receive any response from them. Therefore, as a last resort the family members appealed Indians settled in Kuwait to help find Reshma.
Indian origin Kuwaiti residents Madav Naik, Dinesh Suvarna, Raj Bhandary and Mohandas Kamath, received a tip-off on Reshma’s whereabouts on Wednesday. hey acted immediately and contacted Sibi U S, second secretary, Indian Embassy, Kuwait. A team rescued Reshma from the house where she was kept locked as per the instructions of the secretary.
Currently, Reshma has been brought to the Indian Embassy and will be sent to India after the completion of the legal procedures. The family members and Indian social workers thanked Sibi U S for his quick intervention in rescuing Reshma. There is suspicion that Reshma was a victim of human trafficking and was sold by the Indian agents for a huge amount of money to the Kuwaiti family.
