Gang rape-accused students are not our members: ABVP leader

Puttur: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), state vice president Rohinaksha Shiralalu who is a lecturer by profession has said that none of the students arrested in connection with the gang rape of a girl student and the students arrested for sharing the video in social media were members of the right-wing Indian student organisation.

In an effort to clarify the rumours making round that the accused being members of the Hindutva nationalist group, Shirlalu claimed that it was an attempt being made to sully the image of ABVP since the last two days by repeatedly associating some of the accused in the case with ABVP.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday Shirlalu said, “Vivekananda College campus here has about 8,000 students out of whom 3,000 are members of ABVP. The others are not the members of this organization,” he said.

He condemned the malicious propaganda being carried out against ABVP and demanded strict punishment to the rape accused. “ABVP will hold protest in all the taluk centres of the district on July 6,” he informed.
