Possible heavy rains for the next two days

Mangaluru: According to the forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department, very heavy rains along karavali coupled with high waves and strong winds in the Arabian Sea is expected till Wednesday.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has informed that very heavy rain of over 124 mm is expected to be received at most parts of the coastal region till Wednesday. The areas that will experience this downpour include the entire Udupi district and parts of Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Heavy rain is also expected in the remaining parts of coastal Karnataka including parts of Belagavi district and the Western Ghats till Wednesday morning. The areas will experience heavy rains for the next 24 hours as well.

High waves and strong winds

High waves in the range of 3.5 m-4 m are expected along the coast from Tuesday to Thursday midnight with strong surface currents. Strong southwesterly winds in the range of 40-50 kmph over south west and adjoining central Arabian Sea have been forecasted. The weather department has advised the fishermen to not to venture out into the sea during this period.
