Birmingham: Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc on Thursday set a new record for most number of wickets in a single edition of the World Cup after he trapped England’s Jonny Bairstow lbw in the second semi-final here.
With Bairstow’s wicket, the left-arm pacer claimed his 27th victim in the ongoing 50-over showpiece, breaking the record of 26 wickets previously held by retired Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath for a single edition.
Starc dismissed Bairstow for 34 in the 18th over with England chasing a modest victory target of 224.
