Kundapur: In a bizarre turn of events, Rekha Naika, mother of the one year and three month old child Sanvika, who drowned in Kubja rivulet, has confirmed that the child slipped of her hand during Rekha’s bid to commit suicide along with the children.

Confessing to the police and the psychologist, Rekha revealed that she had ventured into the Kubja rivulet with her son Satvik (5) and Sanvika, with the intention of committing suicide. However, on entering the rivulet, Sanvika slipped off from her right hand and got washed away. In her attempt to recover Sanvika, she lost control of the other child Satvik also and he too got washed away in the rivulet. The water current also carried Rekha away from her children. Later, Rekha and Satvik survived after being carried towards the shore by the water current. Unfortunately, Sanvika drowned.

False statement

After the incident, Rekha gave false statement to the neighbours and family members by saying that some strangers have kidnapped Sanvika. The psychologist who interacted with Rekha has diagnosed her to be suffering from depression and has recommended treatment to bring her out of the shock. Hence, she has been admitted as an inpatient in the Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital in Udupi for treatment.

Further investigation

Further investigation Once Rekha recovers completely from the psychological ailment, further investigation of the case will be conducted. For an impartial and honest inquiry into the case, DySP of Kundapur is deputed as the investigating officer.
