Protest against toll collection from local vehicles at Surathkal: MLA Dr Bharath Shetty

Mangaluru: A vehement protest will be conducted if toll is collected from local vehicles at Surathkal toll plaza, warned MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty.

Toll was being collected from all vehicles at Surathkal toll plaza, but following a strong public outcry, the contract company gave exception to local vehicles (KA-19 registration). However now, the company is allegedly resorting back to toll collection from local vehicles. Responding to the complaint from the public regarding this, the MLA demanded that toll be not collected from local vehicles on the pretext of incurring loss.

“Although the toll plaza is located at Surathkal (NH 66) and comes under MCC limits, NHAi has renamed it as the New Mangalore Port Road. This move has the only hidden agenda of collecting toll from local vehicles,” alleged the MLA.
