Dengue, Malaria prevalent in the district: DC

Mangaluru: “Three have died of fever so far. One of these deaths has been confirmed as having been on account of dengue. Blood samples of two more and another case in which the person is suffering from suspected dengue have been collected and sent to Manipal hospital for testing,” he narrated, addressing a press meet here on Friday July 19.
“The doctors have expressed suspicion about the causes of deaths of Krish (8) at Kodialbail Mangaluru some days back, and of student, Shraddha K Shetty from Gujjarakere. Samples of blood of these two, and that of Nagesh, cameraman of a TV channel, who have been treated as suspicious cases, have been referred to Manipal hospital,” informed the DC who also added that the death of Veena Nayak at Kadaba three weeks back has been confirmed as a case of dengue.
So far, 404 cases have been detected of which 253 are in Mangaluru taluk, 39 in Bantwal, 67 in Puttur, 27 in Belthangady and 23 in Sullia. 90% of the affected people have been cured through treatment, he informed.
Precautionary measures
The DC explained that as breeding grounds have been formed for mosquitoes due to warm, rainy climate, precautionary measures like fogging have been undertaken. Four teams led by senior officials are functioning under the command centre initiated by the district administration and additionally, to government doctors, private doctors and NGOs will also be involved in conducting verifications. the team heads furnish report every evening at the meeting at DC office.
The personnel have been asked to conduct fogging even inside houses in areas where mosquitoes are in large numbers, informed the DC requesting residents to cooperate. The DC also warned that stagnant water near construction sites harbouring mosquito larvae will attract penalty for the concerned.
