Thiruvananthapuram: Kicking up yet another row, a Congress legislator Tuesday slammed KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran for his Facebook Post against the Youth Congress’s controversial decision to gift a car to Kerala MP Ramya Haridas.

In a public outburst, Wadakkanchery MLA Anil Akkara hit out at Ramachandran saying his remarks through the media was akin to supporting ‘cyber comrades’.

After Ramachandran expressed his reservations about the Youth Congress’ Alathur parliamentary committee’s decision to collect Rs 14 lakh through crowdfunding, Ramya Haridas on Sunday decided not to accept the offer.

The Youth Congress also decided to return the about Rs 6.13 lakh collected till now.

Anil Akkara said if the state congress chief can respond publicly on Facebook, other Congress activists can also follow a similar path.

Ramachandran had in the post stated that the move to collect money was unfair as MPs would get loans for buying vehicles and that he would not accept the money if he was in her place.

The debutant Haridas faced severe criticisms in social media after she said she was happy and proud about the Youth Congress’s decision.

Ramya Haridas, the lone woman Lok Sabha member from the state this time, represents the Alathur constituency, which was the stronghold of CPI(M) and defeated two-time MP P K Biju.

There was widespread criticism in the social media over the Youth Congress’s decision, with Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, also coming out with statements against the MP.
