Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Monday hailed the action of Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar in disqualifying the rebel MLAs.

“The Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly has taken the action to disqualify the rebel MLAs in keeping with the provisions of the anti-defection law,” he told reporters on the sidelines of an event here to mark the death anniversary of former Puducherry Chief Minister Edouard Goubert.

Narayanasamy also said the action by the Speaker “is a lesson for all legislators in other states who would quit the party on whose ticket they were elected.”

The Puducherry chief minister said Karnataka had witnessed “a mayhem of democracy” and added that such political games would not last long.

He also charged the BJP with “using money power to lure legislators of the other parties to destabilise elected governments.”

Karnataka Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar had on Sunday disqualified 14 rebel MLAs under the anti-defection law. Eleven Congress MLAs and three JDS lawmakers faced the axe from the Speaker in addition to the three legislators who were disqualified earlier.
