Three fishing boats catch fire in Dakke

Mangaluru: Three under construction boats caught fire in the Old Mangalore Port, referred to as Mangalore Dakke’ in Tulu on Thursday.

Fire personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

The incident took place on the same day when the mechanized fishing began in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasaragod districts after a ban of two months.

More than 1,200 trawler boats in DK district are preparing to venture out into the sea for fishing. There are 850 deep sea trawlers and 350 wooden boats in the district. Most of the deep sea trawler are expected to venture out into the sea today, while the remaining trawlers and up to 90% of the purse seining boats in Mangaluru shall enter into the sea after religious ceremonies.
