President’s police medal conferred to DySP Valentine D’Souza for distinguished service

Bhatkal: The current deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Valentine D’Souza posted here was conferred with the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service at a ceremony organized at the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday July 31. He is one among the four senior police officers chosen for the honour for their distinguished service.

The other recipients of this medal are Uday Nayak, Vinay A Gaonkar, and Sudhir Hegde, informed state additional director general of police, Dr M S Parashivamurthy.

Mr D’Souza started his police service as a sub-inspector in 1994 after completing his probationary period in Mangaluru rural police station.  During his posting at Honnavar in 2000, he was appreciated by the police and the public alike for his initiative in solving the shortage of toilets suffered by the police there. After being posted in Bhatkal in 2001, he made sure that an auditorium was built for installing Lord Ganesha idol on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi.

After being promoted he gave his people-friendly service during his postings at Udupi, Bantwal, DCRB Chikkamagaluru, Kundapur, Panambur, Karkala and CCB Mangaluru. It may be noted that he successfully brought to book several people who were planning to start communal disturbances during his term at Panambur. He reined in the naxal menace through combing operations, during his posting in Karkala.

He was posted here on March 12, 2018 and successfully handled traffic problems by enforcing one side parking, one way riding and no parking rules. He has been actively spreading legal awareness among students.

Mr DSouza is also an acclaimed international body builder too with a large number of medals in his kitty. He had won gold medals in Mysuru University from 1997 to 1999.
