Bengaluru: A 39-year-old businessman was allegedly locked up in a hotel room against his will and tortured for several hours by his friend allegedly after the former demanded return of a Rs 10 lakh business loan.
In a complaint filed with Hebbal police, the victim Karunakaran, a resident of Seshadripuram claimed to have developed an acquaintance with the accused, Dayanand, during a business deal in June last year. Gradually they both became friends and sometime in October last year Dayanand asked for a Rs 10 lakh loan for business purpose to which Karunakaran obliged.
However since Dayanand had not shown any inclination to return the money, Karunakaran began pressurising him for the same. On Wednesday, Dayanand called Karunakaran, saying he wanted to return the money and asked him to come to a hotel. He however along with his aide locked up Karunakaran in a hotel room and tortured him for several hours. The accused released him only after he agreed to lend him a further Rs 10 lakh, he stated in the complaint.
Following his release, Karunakaran went to a nearby hospital for treatment, but doctors refused to treat him, saying it was a police case. He then went to KC General Hospital with his family for treatment and later filed a complaint with the Hebbal police.
Meanwhile the police suspect that Karunakaran is hiding some facts of the case and are searching for Dayanand to ascertain the facts.
