Cops nab two vehicle thieves; seize five cars

Brahmavar: Two suspected car thieves were arrested by Brahmavar police on Friday August 2. Five cars which were reportedly stolen and sold by them have been seized.
The modus operandi of the accused was to express their interest to buy cars on lease and those on sale on OLX, pay token advance, prepare an agreement, take the vehicles to a distant place and then convince the intending buyers that the suspects are the real owners of the vehicles, and then sell the vehicles to them.
The arrested are identified as Abdulla alias Abbas Talapady and Mohammed Safan of Vitla. Another accused identified as Ibrahim form Mangaluru is on the run. A case had been registered at Brahmavar police station on the basis of complaint made by Sunil (31), resident of Hosuru village here on July 24, 2019.
The total value of cars recovered from the accused is approximately Rs 39 lakh and including a Scorpio car worth Rs 5 lakh, Mahindra XUV 500 car worth Rs 15 lakh, an I-20 sports car worth Rs 4 lakh, a Mahindra TUV car worth Rs 7 lakh, and Brezza car worth about Rs 8 lakh.
The operation was led by Brahmavar police sub-inspector, Raghavendra C, under the guidance of Udupi Police deputy superintendent of police, Jayashanker T R and Brahmavar police circle inspector Srikanth, and directions from other senior police officers. Abdulla and Safan sold the vehicles to Shivakumar from Ballari, which presently have been seized.
