High waves overturn fishing boat; all fishermen rescued

Mangaluru: High waves in the sea overturned a boat that was fishing near the Tannirbhavi Beach on Saturday, August 3. However, all the 9 fishermen aboard the vessel were rescued by another fishing boat. The rescued fishermen are Shabbir, Nasir, Riyaz, Ashique, Laxman, L R Rao, Krishna, Guru and Pawan and are said to be safe.

The vessel named ‘Shabbir’, owned by Shabbir, was fishing near the Tannirbhavi Beach at around 7.45 am when suddenly, strong winds in the sea caused the waves to surge to great heights, due to which the boat got overturned and all the nine men were thrown into the sea.

‘Suvarna Kusuma’ and ‘Sri Rama’, engaged in fishing in nearby water noticed the boat overturning and fishermen thrown into the sea and immediately made haste and rescued the fishermen from drowning.

Later, the boat was brought ashore with assistance from the locals.
