Bengaluru: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa joined many BJP leaders and right wing groups in Karnataka in welcoming abolition of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the “historic” decision.

“Article 370 and 35 A will be removed from Jammu and Kashmir, This state will be Union Territory.

Good news for all the Indians, this is historic resolution! Salute to Narendra ModiJi led Government.

Vandematram, Jai Hind,” Yediyurappa tweeted.

Remembering Jan Sangh founder Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, party general secretary in Karnataka and Chikkamagalur MLA C T Ravi said Modi and Shah have undone the “Himalayan blunder” of the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

“Indians will forever be indebted to the “KarmaYogi” (Narendra Modi) and “Chanakya” (Amit Shah) for their momentous decision,” Ravi said.

Former minister and Rajajinagar BJP MLA S Suresh Kumar called it a historic day and said the decision to do away with Article 370 was a tribute to Jan Sangh leader.

“The soul of martyr Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee will get peace today,” Kumar tweeted.

BJP’s firebrand leader Anantkumar Hegde congratulated Modi and Shah, tweeting that “A curse being suffered by the past 2 generations has been wiped off today.

The sacred day would become immortal in the annals of Bharat Varsh (India) as one of the historical blunder is amended,” he said.

As news of the government revoking Article 370 came in, thousands of BJP workers across the state celebrated, distributing sweets and bursting crackers at Davangere, Hubballi, Mangaluru, Udupi, Raichur, Mysuru, Tumakuru and Gulbarga, among others.
