A weeks’ deadline to severe rainwater flow into sewers: MCC

Mangaluru: A deadline of seven days has been set by Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to connect only the effluents from their houses to sewers and ensure that the rainwater flows only through the storm drains.

MCC commissioner has warned strict action against those who fail to comply with this requirement. The commissioner that the warning has been issued after observing that a number of users of underground drainage have connected the rainwater accumulating around their residences to the sewer lines.

Connecting rainwater to underground drainage system results in spilling of waste water out of the manholes lining up the road when it rains, pointed the commissioner and added that this water flows towards houses located at lower altitudes. Besides, waster water flowing into the underground effluents processing units in excess of the limits for which they were designed, thereby leading to a lot of problems. Hence the instructions have been issue, clarified the commissioner.
