Nelyadi: Vehicular movement along Shiradi Ghat began on Sunday albeit under the heavy shadow of fear.
In the backdrop of the rain dropping its intensity on Sunday, permission for the passage of heavy vehicles was also given. On Saturday night, since a lorry fell into a gutter on the upper border of the ghat, traffic movement was affected for some time. The heavy vehicles which lay parked on the road side till 10 am on Sunday were given the permission to resume their journey along the stretch till 6 pm in the evening. Travelling along the ghat in the night remains banned due to the fear of possible landslide.
Hindrance due to heavy vehicle
On Saturday night, the haphazardly parked heavy vehicles in Gundia region caused a major traffic jam at Gundya junction and motorists had a tough time facing the block. There was huge numbers of passengers and lack of food faced here. Subrahmanya GP member Prashant Bhat gathered food from hotels in Subrahmanya, transported it to Gundya, distributed it among the victims and his action has been appreciated by the people.
Filling up on pot holes
Meanwhile, the road between Uppinangady and Gundya is riddled with pot holes and with demand from the Malnad People’s Welfare Association, work was undertaken to fill up the pot holes under the order of NH engineer Lingegowda.
