Rain and flooding: Vegetables, fruits turn expensive

Mangaluru: The continuous heavy rain and the resulting flood has not only put transportation out of gear, the prices of fruits and vegetables has also rocketed due to the damaged crops. Because of this, a few vegetables and fruits in the market have gone up.

As of Aug 11th, the prices of potato, onion, tomato, carrot, ladyfinger, long beans, capsicum, cucumber, beans, tendrils, green chili, coriander leaves, cabbage, beetroot, pudina leaves has increased at Mangaluru central market. Besides, there is no supply of Shimla chili, peas and some other vegetables.

Meanwhile, the supply of locally produced crops like tendrils, leafy vegetables is very limited. There is also no supply of some fruits including oranges, inform sources from the market.
