Youth attempts to desecrate graves at CSI Christha Mahima Church; arrested

Udupi: A youth attempted to damage graves and crucifixes on them at CSI Christha Mahima Church, Manipura, on Saturday, August 10.

As per the complaint filed by a member of the church’s management, he received a call at around 6.30 in the evening from Asha, a member of the church informing that a trespasser was desecrating the graves and spoiling crucifix installed on them.  He rushed to the place immediately, but the person succeeded to escape from the place. However, the member managed to capture a photo of the accused.

Kaup police had registered a case in this regard and conducted investigation.

The arrest

Kaup police managed to arrest the accused identified as Bheema Linga alias Nagaraja (24), a native of Kottur in Ballary district and is a migrant labourer. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

Nagaraj managed to enter the cemetery of the CSI church on Saturday, damaged the crucifix and desecrated the graves. However, his action was witnessed by a local resident who informed the same to the manager of the church. When the manger tried to catch the culprit, he had escaped from the location.

The local had also captured a photo of the accused which proved vital in the arrest of Nagaraj by the police from Katapadi on Sunday, August 12. The culprit had acted under the influence of alcohol and did not have any other ulterior motive for the act, clarified the cops after interrogating the accused.
