CM visits flood-hit Belthangady; shocked by extent of damage

Mangaluru: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday announced a compensation of Rs five lakh for those who have been rendered homeless in the floods and Rs one lakh compensation for those whose houses have been damaged.

The CM who arrived in the city on Monday morning to inspect the extent of the flood damage visited Belthangady and was shocked by the extent of damage resulting from the incessant rain. MLAs Harish Poonja, Kota Srinivasa Poojary, MP Nalin Kumar and RSS leader Prabhakar Bhat accompanied the chief minister and apprised him of the situation.

 

As many as 275 houses have been completely damaged while another 321 partially damaged. Yediyurappa announced an emergency relief of Rs 10,000 for the flood victims as well as Rs 5000 rental allowance till until new house is built or the damaged house is repaired.

He directed officials to undertake repair work and construction of retainer walls within 15 days.

Later Yediyuirappa offered prayers at Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala temple here and met Shri Veerendra Heggade.
