More than 100 acres of farmland, 177 houses damaged in Puttur

Puttur: According to the first phase of loss estimation more than 100 acres of agricultural land, 177 houses have been damaged and a life was lost because of the natural disaster resulting from the incessant rain that poured down on undivided Puttur taluk.

6 houses within Kadaba taluk have been completely destroyed while 83 houses have suffered damage. One life was lost in Kadaba area. Altogether 94 electricity poles and 3 transformers have been destroyed. The flood water has consumed two bridges. Inevitably, 95 people had to be relocated. 24 families were accommodated into the gruel centre. A family of 9, which had been relocated to the gruel centre at Addahole in Shiradi are yet to leave the centre. Altogether 102 km of road has been damaged and of the total 16 crop damage cases in Kadaba, 13 acres of crop damage has been identified in the first phase.

Within Puttur limits, altogether 5 houses have been completely destroyed, 31 houses have suffered partial damage and 52 houses have suffered losses with water entering the structures. As per the information gathered in the first phase, close to 75 acres of crop has been damaged. A suspension bridge in Bajatturu village has been lost to the waters. 122 crop damage cases have been documented.

Survey work is still at progress in Puttur and Kadaba and the number of damage cases are may rise, informs Puttur Assistant Commissioner H K Krishnamurthy.

Facility for rent money

Families from 12 houses at Tenkilagudda area have been relocated. Accommodation and rent money facility for them will be done immediately. In order to provide a permanent facility to the residents here, inspection will be conducted, he informed.

Natural disasters have been successfully handled on the divisional level under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner. The rain has caused wide spread damage. Officials from various departments are working continuously, he informed.

As per the assurances of the chief minister after his visit, the future action will be taken under the direction of the DC. Immediate relief of Rs 3,800 will be provided to those who have suffered loss due to water entering their homes.  Rs 90,000 and Rs 42,000 will be given immediately to fully damaged and partially damaged houses respectively, informed Krishnamurthy.

Appreciating the service provided by the public during the occurrence of the natural disaster, the assistant commissioner said that precautionary measures should be taken by individuals when there is flooding. He requested that the houses be maintained clean.

Report submitted to chief minister

Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor has submitted a report to CM Yeddyurappa concerning the losses incurred of almost Rs 75 crore due to natural disaster within Puttur Legislative Assembly Constituency.

2nd phase report

The first phase report concerning crop, houses, roads, bridges, public property, loss of life and loss of domesticated animals has been submitted.
