Another corpse found in Tora; Search for the remaining five continues

Madikeri: The corpse of Shankara (57) whose life was claimed by the landslide which occurred at Tora village in Virajpete on August 9th following torrential rains has been found. With this finding, a total of five corpses have been found here so far and the number of lives lost to natural disaster in the district has risen to 11.

The incessant rains caused Manipara hill in Tora village to come crashing down following which, 10 persons went missing. Of the missing people, the corpse of Mamata and Likita were recovered from the debris on the very day of the incident. But soon, the weather changed to the worse and the area covered by the mud turned hard to work upon and thus the search for the remaining 8 corpses was adversely affected.

With the drop in the rain intensity, recuse teams worked continuously on the site and on Monday, successfully recovered the corpse of Anasuya. On Aug 14, the corpse of Appu was found and recovered.

The search for the remaining corpses was continued with the help of 6 hitachis, but for three days, no progress was achieved.

During the operation conducted on Saturday, the corpse of Shankara was found and recovered. He deceased was originally from Dakshina Kannada district and was presently residing at the line house of Ramakrishna at Kitiyanda in Tora village.

Five more corpses are yet to be found and the search operation has gathered pace. The remaining persons to be found include Tora village Prabhu’s mother Devaki (65), children Amrita (13) and Aditya (10) and the family members of Harish including Leela and Veena.
