Full day Saturday classes for schools in DK starting 24 August; Sundays holiday

It is to compensate for loss of classes for about a week during rains

Mangaluru: The department of public instruction in Dakshina Kannada have instructed schools to conduct additional classes on Saturday afternoons to compensate for the loss of lessons caused due to serial holidays on account of heavy rains.

Holidays had been announced by the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Sasikanth Senthil earlier this month in the interests and safety of the students on account of heavy rains and floods. Schools in Sullia, Puttur, and Belthangady blocks were closed from August 5 to 12 and the other four educational blocks were closed from August 6 to 12.

In the order issued by  Deputy Director of Public Instruction Y. Shivaramaiah, the circular stated that the Schools in Dakshina Kannada will have to conduct classes for the whole day on Saturdays starting from August 24. Sundays shall remain a holiday. It is to compensate for the loss of classes due to rains earlier this month. Belthangady, Sullia, Puttur, Bantwal and Moodbidri will have Saturday classes for the next 13 weeks. Schools under Mangalore north and south block will have 12 Saturday classes.
