A gang of 7 robbers nabbed; Goods worth Rs 25 lakh seized

Mangaluru: Seven persons who were allegedly threatening and robbing jewellery shop customers and owners in the city have been arrested by the cops.
The arrested are identified as Puttur resident Abdul Majeed H(32), Bantwal taluk Peramogaru Kedila resident Mohammed Shafi alias Shafi(24), Kolnad resident Asif K(25), Budoli Peraje resident Mohammed Nasir(20), Pudu resident Mansoor Ali alias Mansoor(30) Farangipete residents Mohammed Sayyed alias Monu(31) and Ahmed Basheer alias Basheer(29), who is wanted relating to a case in Mangaluru south police station and absconding along with six other robbery accused, was arrested on a tip off.
The accused were waiting in a car and bike, to ambush customers of jewellery shops near a private school in Car Street on August 13 when they were nabbed. The arrested were produced in the court and questioned in police custody where they nfessed of the crimes they had committed. The accused had also hatched a conspiracy to waylay, threaten and rob jewellery shop owners who were returning home after business. They reportedly confessed of robbing cash and jewellery in four different instances in Mangaluru north police station, Mangaluru south police station and Mangaluru rural police station limits.
Along with the arrests, the cops have also seized a Maruti Swift, a Maruti Celerio car, a Maruti Ritz car, Toyota Glanza car and Bajaj bike used by the accused for robberies, 140 grams gold and Rs 5.12 lakh cash was recovered from them and the total value of goods seized is Rs 25 lakh.
Mangaluru north (Bunder) police station have registered a case in this connection and have also spread out a net to catch a few more accused who are currently on the run.
