Record Rs 266.65 cr insurance cover for Mumbai’s GSB Ganesh

Mumbai: Mumbai’s richest Ganesh pandal put up by Goud Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) Seva Mandal at King’s Circle in central Mumbai has taken an insurance cover of a record Rs 266.65 crore this year.
Traditionally, the GSB Ganesh is decorated with gold ornaments and other precious material during the festival, which is beginning from September 2.
“We have taken insurance for a variety of risks from a nationalised general insurance company,” GSB Seva Mandal spokesperson Satish Nayak said on Wednesday.
While the Rs 20.40 crore risk insurance cover includes gold, silver and jewellery, the personal accident insurance cover for volunteers, priests, cooks, chappal stall workers, valet parking persons, security guards is worth Rs 224.90 crore, he said.
A Rs one crore standard fire and special peril policy with earthquake risk covers items like furniture, fixtures and fittings, installations like computers, CCTV cameras, utensils, grocery, fruits and vegetables, according to Nayak.
The standard fire and special peril policy for cosmopolitan sports club provides insurance of Rs 35 lakh.
Public liability, which covers pandals, stadiums, devotees etc. is secured with Rs 20 crore, he added.
