Udupi: The development here has been adversely affected by the sand problem and hence, sand mining will be commenced soon. Strict action will be taken to prevent the movement of even a handful of sand to other districts, informed DC G Jagadish speaking at the press conference held at the municipality on Sunday.
The sand in the district will used locally. It will be used for the construction of homes for the poor, construction of buildings under various government works and importance will be given for the construction of houses. The sand problem will be solved soon, he informed.
Sand mining to begin soon
There is no need to conduct a re-survey of the already identified sand blocs in the district. Two people have been given the permission for sand extraction within non-CRZ limits. In the same way, opportunity will be provided for sand mining within CRZ limits without any legal interference. There enough sand still remaining at Baje water reservoir. Therefore immediate action will be taken to start dredging here, he assured.
Thoughts on phone-in programme once every month
When I was the COO of Kola ZP, I was conducting phone-in programme once in a month to analyse the problems there and find solutions for them. I am thinking of continuing that in Udupi district as well.
The preparations required for them will be carried out and soon the phone-in programme will be started. Traffic density is increasing in Udupi and Manipal. In this backdrop, discussions will be held with the transport minister and action will be taken, informed the DC
