Compensation provided to 507 houses

Bantwal: A total of 507 families which suffered due the floods that occurred in the taluk last month have been provided with Rs 10,000 as compensation. 133 houses have been identified to have suffered damage due to the natural calamity.

When Chief Minister Yeddyurappa had visited Bantwal to take stock of the damage caused by the floods in the taluk, he had ordered that a compensation of Rs 10,000 be released to those who faced problem because of water entering their homes during the flood. Accordingly, altogether 2,339 people belonging to 507 houses in 14 villages of the taluk were provided with the compensation.

Problem due to water entering homes

According to Bantwal taluk’s administration, most of the houses which have been provided with the compensation did not suffer any damage other than the problem of water entering their homes. Thus, the compensation for the houses which were damaged due to the natural calamity remains to be completed. Up till the end of June, Rs 5.06 lakh has been distributed as compensation to altogether 91 small cases in the taluk. But, more damage has been incurred during the end of July and in the month of August.

Details regarding damaged homes

The government has decided to pay compensation to the houses which were damaged due to the natural calamity based on the percentage of the extent of the damage according to which, Rs 25,000 will be provided to houses which have suffered 15% – 25% damage, Rs 1 lakh for those which have suffered 75% damage and houses which have suffered more damage will be given a compensation of Rs 5 lakh. Presently in the taluk, 66 houses which have suffered 15% – 25% damage, 40 houses which have suffered 26% – 75% damage and altogether 21 houses which have suffered 100% damage have been identified. Altogether 133 houses have been damaged, informed the taluk administration.

Immediate compensation details

Immediate compensation was provided to those families which suffered due to water entering their homes during  the floods and include 138 houses from Panemangaluru, 105 from Bantwal Kasbah, 9 from Kadeshwalaya, 3 from Barimari, 17 from Amadi, 101 from Bantwal Mooda, 15 from Puduvu, 27 in Sajipanadu, 8 in Sajipamunnuru, 10 in Perne/Biliyuru, 3 in Maninalkuru, 56 in Navuru, 13 in Thumbay, 2 in Sajipa Mooda and thus, altogether 507 houses where provided with Rs 10,000 as compensation each.

Documentation of the incurred damage

507 families which suffered due to the floods in Bantwal have been provided with the compensation amount and kit. The details regarding the remaining houses which have suffered damage is being documented into the portal, and the grant from Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation is being released in phases – Rashmi S R, Tahsildar, Bantwal
