Mangaluru: The Mumbai based Mercantor Ltd, which owns the dredger, Tridevi Prem, that sank about 2.5 nautical miles off Panambur coast where it was anchored has finally come forward to clear oil from the sunken dredger to prevent sea pollution from oil leakage.
Apparently, the company might give the work of removing oil to a foreign firm with which the company is currently in talks with and once the technical processes are completed, the team may arrive here to remove oil.
Meanwhile, steps have been taken to make sure that the sunken dredger does not give rise to oil slick. Close vigil has been kept on the sunken dredger, and two rounds of booms have been installed around the dredger as precaution measure. Presently, ships arriving and departing from the NMPT port are not facing any problem.
It is learnt that Mercantor Ltd is already facing police case for negligence. Pollution control board and the state government is also involved with the issue of preventing pollution as a precautionary measure.Mangaluru, sunken dredger, Mumbai , Mercantor Ltd,
